Tropical linear spaces and tropical convexity (Q907234): Difference between revisions

In this paper, tropical linear spaces are defined using valuated matroids (i.e. we have a valuation on the bases of the matroid with certain properties). It was known before that tropical linear spaces are tropically convex (we just rewrite one of the usual definitions of convexity in max-plus algebra over the real numbers). In this paper the result in the opposite direction is proven: a tropically convex tropical variety is a tropical linear space (Theorem 1.1). A good recollection of results about tropical convexity is presented. An additional result is proven: a tropically locally convex closed connected set is tropically convex.
