Using the theory of normal forms, the authors characterize, for several examples, existence of an analytic first integral in a neighborhood of a critical point of a system of ordinary differential equations on the plane when the linear part at the critical point is zero. For example, they give necessary and sufficient conditions on the coefficients of fourth order homogeneous polynomials \(P_4\) and \(Q_4\) that the singularity at the origin of the system \(\dot x = y^3 + P_4(x,y)\), \(\dot y = -x^3 + Q_4(x, y)\) admit a local analytic first integral.
