In [Ann. Math. (2) 169, No. 1, 255--267 (2009; Zbl 1184.32006)], \textit{M. Ru} proved the second main theorem for algebraically nondegenerate holomorphic curves \(f:\mathbb{C}\to V\) in complex projective varieties \(V\) intersecting fixed hypersurfaces which is a generalization of Cartan's second main theorem. Later, \textit{Z. Chen, M. Ru} and \textit{Q. Yan} [Sci. China, Math. 55, No. 7, 1367--1380 (2012; Zbl 1257.32014)] gave a partial extension of Ru's theorem to the case that all the hypersurfaces are located in so called \(m\)-subgeneral position, where \(m=\dim V\). In the paper under review, the authors improve Chen-Ru-Yan's inequality. Moreover, they give an explicit estimate for the truncation level when the Zariski closure of the image \(f(\mathbb{C})\) is smooth and projective normal with respect to some very ample divisor.
