Given two 3-dimensional convex bodies \(K\subseteq L\), the authors prove a sharp lower bound on the difference of their surface areas \(F(K)-F(L)\) in terms of geometric quantities related to the Hausdorff distance of \(K,L\). In particular, the result extends a former result of the authors for planar convex bodies [J. Convex Anal. 22, No. 3, 853--858 (2015; Zbl 1328.52002)].
