The main result of the paper is that the function \(F_{\lambda}(x)=\int _{0}^{x} (x-t)^{\lambda}\sin t dt\) is logarithmically convex on \((0,\infty)\) for \(\lambda\geq 2\). Due to this result, Turan type inequalities have been proved for the Lommel function of the first kind \(s_{\mu,\nu}(x)\) since \(F_{\lambda}(x)=\sqrt{x} s_{\lambda+{1/2},{1/2}}(x)\). Also for \(\lambda\) a positive integer, the function \(F_{\lambda}(x)\) is related to the remainders \(T_{n}(x)\) and \(S_{n}(x)\) of the Maclaurin series expansion of the functions \(\sin x\) and \(\cos x\), so monotonicity results are given for \(T_{n}(x)\) and \(S_{n}(x)\).
