The main object of the paper under review is a toroidal (= logarithmically regular logarithmic) scheme \((X,D)\) equipped with an action of a diagonalizable group. The authors' main goal is to show that under certain technical assumptions, the main of which is summarized in the notion of toroidal action, the quotient is also a toroidal scheme and that an arbitrary action admits a torification ( = equivariant modification to a toroidal action). All these notions are rigorously defined and informally explained in this very well-written text. The main motivation of the authors is related to their forthcoming paper [``Functorial factorization of birational maps for qe schemes in characteristic 0'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1606.08414}] on functorial factorization of birational maps, where they make use not only of the main results but also of several auxiliary assertions of the paper under review. Most technical tools rely on their earlier paper [``Luna's fundamental lemma for diagonalizable groups'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1505.00754}].
