The present paper studies the behavior of the dominant dimensions of algebras under derived equivalences as well as it deals with the Nakayama conjecture in the context of derived categories. For this purpose, the author introduces a more general notion of relatively exact sequences which not only capture the relatively split sequences concept but also yields a construction of derived equivalences between subrings of the endomorphism rings of the objects involved. The first main theorem of this paper provides a method to construct derived equivalences between algebras with small dominant dimensions allowing to construct an example of a derived equivalence between a generalized symmetric algebra of dominant dimension \(2\) and an algebra of dominant dimension \(1\). This permits to answer negatively a question by Ming Fang consisting of whether derived equivalences preserve generalized symmetric algebras. The second main theorem provides an inequality of the dominant dimension of one algebra in terms of the one of the other, together with the projective dimension of a tilting module. As an immediate consequence of this result, the author obtains a sufficient condition for tilting procedure to preserve the infinity of dominant dimensions.
