The authors study trace formulas of the form \[ \operatorname{trace} \left( f(U)-f(V)\right) = \int_{\mathbb{T}} f'(s) \xi(s)\,ds \] for sufficiently nice functions \(f\), where \(U, V\) are unitary operators, \(U-V\) is trace class, and \(\xi\) is a spectral shift function. The main result says that this trace formula holds for every operator Lipschitz function \(f\) on the circle \(\mathbb{T}\) and each pair \((U, V)\) of unitary operators such that \(U-V\) is trace class.
