This paper is concerned with quadrilateral finite element approximation to singular solutions of elliptic equations in planar polygonal domains. The numerical solution belongs to a family of weighted Sobolev spaces, where the weight is a function of the distance to the vertex set. The authors propose new algorithms for quadrilateral mesh refinements, so that the resulting quadrilaterals are convex and shape regular. Numerical experiments are also presented.
