Let \(\mathbb {C}_{\infty}\) be the extended complex plane endowed with the spherical metric. Assume that \(\Omega\subset \mathbb {C}_{\infty}\) is an open set and \(0\in \Omega.\) Denote by \(H(\Omega)\) the set of holomorphic functions on \(\Omega\) (vanishing at infinity in case \(\infty \in \Omega\)) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets. The aim of this article is using an eigenvalue criterion to find assumptions that guarantee the frequent hypercyclicity of the Taylor shift operator \(T: H(\Omega)\to H(\Omega)\) defined by \[ Tf(z):=\frac{f(z)-f(0)}{z} \;\;(z\in \Omega\setminus \{0\}), \;\;Tf(0):=f'(0). \] The main result of the article states that if each component of \(\Omega^{*}:=\{1/z:\;z\in \mathbb {C}_{\infty}\setminus \Omega \}\) contains a non-trivial subarc \(A=\{e^{it}: \;a<t<b\} ,\) then \(T\) has a \(\mathbb{C}^{\infty}(\mathbb{T})-\)eigenvector field associated to unimodular eigenvalues. As a corollary of this result the author proves that under the above conditions \(T\) is mixing, chaotic and frequently hypercyclic. However, as the author shows the Taylor shift operator \(T\) on \(H(\mathbb{C}_{\infty}\setminus \{1\})\) is not frequently hypercyclic. As a corollary of the main theorem he also obtains the existence of a dense set \(X_{0}\subset H(\mathbb {C}_{\infty}\setminus B),\) where \(B\) is the closure of a non-trivial subarc, such that for every \(f\in X_0\) the derivatives \(f^{(j)}|_{\mathbb{D}}, \;j\in \mathbb{N}_0\), extend continuously to \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\) (here \(\mathbb{D}=\{z: \;|z|<1\}\)).
