A holomorphic characterization of compact sets in Banach spaces (Q2396993): Difference between revisions

The problem of approximating holomorphic functions on a given ball by entire functions has a positive solution in various cases. In [Period. Math. Hung. 56, No. 2, 241--245 (2008; Zbl 1164.32003)], \textit{L. Lempert} has shown that the solution is not positive in the general case. The authors of the paper under review extend Lempert's result to all Banach spaces which contain a bounding, non-relatively compact set. Among other results, it is also proved that subsets \(A\) that are bounding for analytic functions defined in any of its neighborhoods whose boundary lies at positive distance from \(A\) are relatively compact.
