The present paper is devoted to the study of the hierarchical Anderson model which was first considered by \textit{A. Bovier} [J. Stat. Phys. 59, No. 3--4, 745--779 (1990; Zbl 0718.60121)]. Quite recently in [\textit{F. L. Metz}, et al., ``Transition between localized and extended states in the hierarchical Anderson model'', Phys. Rev. B 88, No. 4, Article ID 045103, 7 p. (2013; \url{doi:10.1103/PhysRevB.88.045103})] it was observed that by numerical simulations the appearance of a special energy in (effective spectral) dimension \(d>2\), for which delocalized eigenvectors appear in the case of a weak Gaussian random potential. In the present paper, the authors are argueing that as long as the hierarchical hopping is summable, all states are localized in every possible specification of that term and the eigenvalues exhibit Poisson statistics. By means of Feshbach-Krein-Schur renormalization techniques in the hierarchical Anderson model, a criterion on the single-site distribution is established which ensures exponential dynamical localization as well as positive inverse participation ratios and Poisson statistics of eigenvalues. The provided criterion can be applied to all cases of exponentially decaying hierarchical hopping strengths. Moreover, it holds even for spectral dimension \(d>2\).
