The authors show the existence of compact exponentially attracting sets and their robustness for families of semigroups that are uniformly dissipative, continuous and exponentially \(\kappa\)-dissipative. In particular, the continuity of the attractors with respect to the symmetric Hausdorff distance is proven. The concept of exponential \(\kappa\)-dissipativity was previously introduced in [\textit{J. Zhang} et al, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 37, No. 6, 3487--3502 (2017; Zbl 1367.47062)]. The results are subsequently applied to the perturbed semilinear strongly damped wave equation \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} u_{tt}-(1+\varepsilon\|\nabla u\|^ 2)\Delta u -\Delta u_t&=f(u)+g & \qquad (0,\infty)& \times \Omega,\\ u|_{\partial \Omega}&=0& \qquad (0,\infty)& \times\partial \Omega,\\ (u,u_t)|_{t=0}&=(u_0,v_0) \qquad & \{0\} &\times \Omega,\end{alignedat} \] where \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^ n, n\geq 3,\) is a bounded domain and \(\varepsilon\in[0,1]\). Moreover, \(g\in L^ 2(\Omega)\) and the nonlinearity \(f\) is assumed to be dissipative and satisfies a subcritical growth condition.
