The Whittaker-Shannon sampling theorem provides a formula for the reconstruction of band-limited functions from their samples at a discrete set of points. A bandlimited function is a square integrable function whose Fourier transform vanishes outside a finite interval symmetric around the origin. In 1965, I. Kluvanek was the first to extend the sampling theorem to abstract harmonic analysis and in which the role of the real line is replaced by an arbitrary locally compact Abelian group (LCA). The paper under review extends the sampling theorem in another direction. The paper gives a general sampling theorem for abstract unitary invariant subspaces in a separable Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}.\) These subspaces are constructed by using unitary representations of locally compact Abelian groups in \({\mathcal H}.\) A typical such a subspace is denoted by \({\mathcal A}_a\) for a fixed \(a\in {\mathcal H},\) and is constructed as follows. Let \(G\) be a second countable LCA Hausdorff group and \(M<H<G\) be countable uniform lattices in \(G.\) Let \(g\in G\) and \(U(g)\in {\mathcal U} ({\mathcal H})\) be a continuous unitary representation of \(G\) in \({\mathcal H}.\) Under the assumption that \(\left\{ U(h) a\right\}_{h\in H}\) is a Riesz sequence in \({\mathcal H},\) the space \({\mathcal A}_a\) takes the form \[ {\mathcal A}_a=\left\{ \sum_{h\in H} \alpha_h U(h)a : \{\alpha_h \}_{h\in H} \in \ell^2 (H) \right\} . \] The main goal of the paper is to reconstruct any \(x\in {\mathcal A}_a \) from a sequence of its samples of the form \[ \langle x, U(m) b_j\rangle, \quad m\in M,\quad b_j\in {\mathcal H}, \quad j=1,2, \cdots , s , \] taken at the subgroup \(M.\)
