The paper gives an analysis of the images under a certain map of periodic billiard trajectories inside the fundamental region of the affine Weyl group of the root lattice \(A_2\). The images are described by a family of polynomials and certain closed curves. These polynomials are related to eigenfunctions of symmetric diffusion operators in two or three dimensions. They are not defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\), but there are related polynomials defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\). Using the latter polynomials, some singular varieties with nodal singularities, in particular, Calabi-Yau threefolds defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\) are constructed. This includes singular Calabi-Yau threefolds as double covers of octic surfaces.
