A new B-spline collocation method for singular integro-differential equations of higher orders (Q2186906): Difference between revisions

A fracture problem with Steigmann-Ogden surface energy can be represented by a pair of singular integro-differential equations of high order, representing the normal and shear stresses. Standard numerical methods do not provide good results in this setting. This paper proposes two numerical schemes based on B-spline collocation, one for each of the equations. It is shown that the resulting systems of linear equations are well-conditioned and the numerical examples are in good agreement with the known solutions. Although this paper is concerned with the numerical solution to these specific equations, the proposed method can be easily generalized to a large class of singular integro-differential equations.
