Given a Poisson manifold one can define a \(*\)-product on the algebra of smooth functions on \(M\). One calls the \(*\)-product Hermitian if the complex conjugation is an involution. Under some suitable hypothesis the action of a group gives rise to a new Poisson manifold \(M_{\mathrm{red}}\). The BRST approach provides a way to construct a reduced \(*\)-product on \(M_{\mathrm{red}}\). It was proved in [\textit{M. Bordemann} et al., Commun. Math. Phys. 210, No. 1, 107--144 (2000; Zbl 0961.53046)] that the formal deformation of the classical BRST algebra is isomorphic to the deformation of the algebra of smooth functions of \(M_{\mathrm{red}}\). This article addresses the problem whether one can modify the BRST construction to have an induced \(*\)-involution for the reduced star product. In Section \(3\) compatible involutions and their \(*\)-representation theory are studied. Having found a suitable concept of involutions the authors apply this idea to the quantum BRST algebra.
