Positive linear operators like Bernstein operators on polynomials are useful approximation methods, for instance for quasi-interpolation, because they offer stable, convergent algorithms that have an interesting theory, often exact on constant and linear univariate polynomials (this makes the use of second degree polynomials as test functions for approximation error estimates plausible). Other examples that can be used for quasi-interpolation are the famous Weierstrass operators and the de la Vallée-Poussin ones. In this paper, interesting convergence results are found about Baskakov operators with standard tools like K-functionals and moduli of smoothness. The test functions are quadratic polynomials, some numerical results are offered and a Voronovskaja type result is derived too.
