Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(\text{F}_i(G)\) be the \(i\)th term of the ascending Fitting series. In this paper, the author shows that \(|G: \text{F}_8(G)|\) is bounded from above in terms of \(m(G)\) and in particular, if \(|\text{F}_8(G)|\) is odd, \(|G: \text{F}(G)|\) is bounded from above in terms of \(m(G)\), where \(m(G)\) denotes the largest number of zeros in a row in the character table of \(G\).
