The authors start from the well-known solutions of the Weyl problem (1916): the isometric embedding in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) of smooth metrics on \(\mathbb{S}^2\) with positive Gauss curvature are the only isometric embedding of compact surfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^3\). Now they initiate a study of the isometric embedding in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) of smooth metrics on torus. In the present paper their main result is as follows. Suppose that \(g= E(t)dx^2+ G(t)\,dt^2\) is a metric on \(\mathbb{T}^2= S^1\times S^1\) and satisfies \(\int_{(K>0)} Kdg= 4\pi\) and \(K= 0\) on curves \((t= t_1)\) and \((t= t_2)\) with \(t_1,t_2\subset[0, 2\pi)\), \(t_1< t_2\). Then \(g\) admits a smooth isometric embedding in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) if and only if \[ \int^{t_2}_{t_1} \sqrt{1-\Biggl({E'\over 2\sqrt{EG}}\Biggr)^2}\sqrt{G}dt= \int^{t_{1+2\pi}}_{t_2} \sqrt{-\Biggl({E'\over 2\sqrt{EG}}\Biggr)^2}\sqrt{G}dt. \]
