The authors use connections between generalized dimensions and the recurrence properties of the dynamics in order to study how the decay of the shortest distance between multiple orbits depends on the generalized dimension of the invariant measure. This result is applied to multidimensional expanding maps and random dynamical systems. In the latter case a relation between the longest common substring between multiple sequences and the generalized Renyi entropy is established. Applications to Markov chains and Gibbs states are given.
