Extremal of log Sobolev inequality and \(W\) entropy on noncompact manifolds (Q715623): Difference between revisions

The paper provides a counterexample to the existence of extremals of the Log Sobolev functional. It is shown that under an additional condition near infinity, the Log Sobolev functional has an extremal function decaying exponentially near infinity. Applications to the geometry of noncompact manifolds, especially related to the Ricci flow, are given.
