For a positive integer \(k\) let \({\mathcal N}_k\) be the set of positive integers having exactly \(k\) prime power divisors, and let \(\pi_k(x)\) denote the number of elements of \({\mathcal N}_k\) not exceeding \(x\). Moreover, denote by \(\overline{\mathcal M}\) the set of multiplicative functions \(f\) satisfying \(| f(n)| \leq 1\). The authors show that for each irrational \(\alpha\) we have \[ {{1}\over {\pi_k(x)}}\left| {\underset{n\in{\mathcal N}_k}{\sum\limits_{n\leq x}}} f(n)e^{2\pi in\alpha}\right| \to 0\;\;\text{as}\;\;x\to\infty, \] uniformly in \(f\in\overline{\mathcal M}\) as \(\delta\leq {{k}\over {\log\log x}}\leq 2-\delta\). Here \(\delta\) is an arbitrary positive constant with \(\delta<1\). The proof of the result is based upon a theorem of Dupain, Hall and Tenenbaum.
