A generalization (Zamolodchikov, 1988) of the Feigin-Fuks (1982) method is presented for explicitly constructing the symmetry algebra representations (Fock modules), chiral primary fields (tensor operators for this algebra) and their correlation functions in the two-dimensional quantum field theory for the case when the BRST (Becci-Royet-Stora-Tyutin, 1974-1976) like algebra \(A_ 1^{(1)}\) (central extension of the Lie algebra of loops in \(sl(2,\mathbb C)\) (Wakimoto, 1986)) is used. The structure of Fock modules over \(A_ 1^{(1)}\) is investigated. The irreducible highest weight modules arise as degree zero cohomology groups in a BRST-like complex of Fock modules, and chiral primary fields are constructed as BRST-invariant operators acting in these Fock modules. As a result a free field representation of correlation functions of the \(\mathrm{SU}(2)\) invariant Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model on the plane and on the torus are obtained. The representations of fractional level arising in Polyakov's two-dimensional quantum gravity theory are also considered. In conclusion, the Borel-Weyl-like geometrical interpretation of the Wakimoto construction is given.
