The author studies the spectrum of the Harper eigenvalue equation \[ \psi_{n-1}+2\cos (2\pi \alpha n +\theta)\psi_n +\psi_{n+1}= \varepsilon \psi_n \] in the space \(\ell^2( \mathbb{Z}).\) He gets asymptotic properties of the derivative of the discriminant of this equation.
