The authors consider the inertia of Hermitian skew-triangular block matrices of the block order 2 and 3. In particular, they get some relations among the inertia of the matrix, the inertias of its diagonal blocks, and the bounds on the rank of off-diagonal blocks. The results may be considered as an improvement of earlier results of \textit{E. V. Haynsworth} and \textit{A. M. Ostrowski} [ibid. 1, 299--316 (1968; Zbl 0186.33704)].
