The Kodaira dimension of the moduli space of Prym varieties (Q973864): Difference between revisions

The aim of this paper is to iniciate a study of the enumerative and global geometry of the moduli spaces \(R_g\) of Prym varieties of dimension \(g-1\), in particular to determine their Kodaira dimensions. By Theorem 0.1, the main result of the paper, \(R_g\) is of general type for any \(g > 13\) different from \(15\). To achieve this, for all such \(g\) the authors construct effective divisors \(D\) on \(R_g\) (more precisely on suitable compactifications \(\bar{R}_g\) of \(R_g\)) such that the canonical class \(K_{\bar{R}_g} = \alpha.\Lambda + \beta.D\) + (effective boundary divisors), for some positive rational numbers \(\alpha, \beta\), where \(\Lambda = \pi^*(\lambda) \in Pic(\bar{R}_g)\) is the pull-back of the Hodge class \(\lambda\) on the moduli space \(\bar{M}_g\) of genus \(g\) curves by the forgetful map \(\pi: \bar{R}_g \rightarrow \bar{M}_g\).
