The author uses the mixed Hodge structure on truncations of fundamental group rings of compact Riemann surfaces (in general due to J. Morgan, R. Hain) to obtain a Torelli type theorem in this context. This is the main result of the paper which consists of the author's doctoral dissertation. For the proof, some ideas of R. Hain are used.
