The authors have investigated the title problem under various boundary conditions. Fundamental equations describing the moments, transverse forces, and the compatibility condition on the in-plane displacements of the mid plane have been obtained for a rectangular Reissner sandwich plate. Boundary conditions for different edges of the plate have been given, and the boundary value problem has been solved by using the method of harmonic balance with the help of VAX8700 digital computer. The authors have thus developed a new technique using mixed Fourier series. Solutions are convincing when compared with the results available in the existing literature. Finally, numerical results have been obtained and presented graphically. A list of references has been appended indicating the acquaintance of the authors with the concerned literature. The paper and its presentation are good; the work can be useful for those working in the field of solid mechanics, in general, and on elastic vibrations, in particular.
