This work deals primarily with discrete-time systems and generalizes the results of \textit{C. E. de Souza, M. Fu} and \textit{L. Xie} [IEEE Trans. Autom. Control 38, 459-462 (1993; Zbl 0791.93064)]; \textit{K. Gu, X. Ye} and \textit{N. K. Loh} [Design of \(H_\infty\) control of discrete-time systems with uncertainties, Proc. 32nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, USA, Vol. 1, 39-44 (1993)]; \textit{K. Gu} [IEEE Trans. Autom. Control 39, 1320-1322 (1994; Zbl 0812.93029)]. The problems of robust performance analysis and feedback control synthesis for a class of discrete-time systems with time-varying parametric uncertainties are considered. The uncertainties are bound and represented by a linear matrix fractional model. By adopting the recent concept of strongly robust \(H_\infty\) performance criterion, some earlier results are systematically recovered and subsequently extended to new and easily computable forms involving matrix inequalities. The approach of using matrix inequalities has the advantage that it can be solved using numerically stable and efficient methods including interior-point algorithms. Synthesis of robust feedback controllers is carried out for several system models of interest.
