Considering the problem of active failure detection in dynamical systems, it is shown that for systems subject to inequality bounded perturbations, and, under certain conditions, there exist test signals that can completely expose various failure modes of the system. Methods for detecting and isolating failures in systems excited by such test signals are presented. An example is given.
