The authors discuss the version of the renormalization group method for asymptotic analysis of partial differential equations worked out by \textit{L.-Y. Chen, N. Goldenfeld} and \textit{Y. Oono} [Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, No. 10, 1311--1315 (1994); erratum ibid. 74, No. 10, 1889 (1995); Zbl 0925.81116]. On two examples, the Navier-Stokes equations for a slightly compressible fluid and the Swift-Hohenberg equation modelling the effects of hydrodynamic fluctuations of a fluid near the Rayleigh-Bénard instability, they analyze the validity in time of the asymptotic solutions obtained by the renormalization group method.
