The problems of representation of uncertainty in expert systems by means of fuzzy logic tools are described and investigated. It is shown that fuzzy logic covers a wide scale of different types of uncertainty and, especially, that it reduces the problem of deduction and inference to that of solving a nonlinear program by means of which the uncertainty of conclusions can be derived from the uncertainty of premises. Some representative problems connected with the management of uncertainty are discussed from the fuzzy logical point-of-view.
