    The authors extend results of \textit{N. Hirano} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 120, No. 1, 185-192 (1994; Zbl 0795.34051)] and study periodic and Cauchy problems \[ x'(t)+A(t,x(t))=0 \text{ a.e. on } T, \quad x(0)=x(b), \tag{1} \] \[ x'(t)+A(t, x(t))=0 \text{ a.e. on } T, \quad x(0)=x_0. \tag{2} \] In the framework of an evolution triple \(X\subset H\subset X^*\) and the hypothesis \(H(A)\) on operator \(A: T\times X\to X^*\) : (i) \(t\to A(t,x)\) is measurable, (ii) \(t\to A(t,x)\) is pseudomonotone, (iii) \(\|A(t,x)\|_*\leq a_1(t)+c_1\|x\|^{p-1}\) a.e. on \(T\) \((a_1\in L^q(T)\), \(c_1\geq 0\), \(p\geq 2\), \(1/p+1/q=1)\), (iv) \(0<A(t,x)\), \(x \geq c\|x\|^p-\theta(t)\) for a.a. \(t\in T\) and all \(x\in X \) \((c\leq 0\), \(\theta\in L^1(T))\) two existence results are obtained: Theorem (I): If hypothesis {H(A)} holds, then problem (1) has a solution \(x\in W_{pq}(T):=\{x\in L^p(T,X): x'\in L^q(T,X)\}\). Theorem (II): If hypothesis {H(A)} holds and \(x_0\in H\), then problem (2) has a nonempty solution set which is compact in \(C(T,H)\). A nonmonotone perturbation term \(f(t,x)\) is considered and examples from parabolic partial differential equations which illustrate the results for nonhomogeneous equations are presented.
