The authors investigate the Volterra equation \((CL)\quad x'(t)=Ax(t)+\int^{t}_{0}C(t-s)x(s)ds\) (and a nonconvolution version of (CL)) by analyzing the equivalence of various stability concepts. In particular, it is claimed that if the differential resolvent Z associated with (CL), i.e., the solution of \(Z'(t)=AZ(t)+\int^{t}_{0}C(t- s)Z(s)ds,\quad Z(0)=I,\) satisfies \(Z\in L^ 1(R^+)\), then \(| Z(t)| \leq Ke^{-\lambda t}\) for some \(K<\infty\) and \(\lambda >0.\) This result is obviously wrong. For counterexamples see. e.g., \textit{J. S. W. Wong} and \textit{R. Wong} [Trans. of Am. Math. Soc. 189, 185-200 (1974)]. The authors base their proofs on what they claim to be a well- known result, namely that Z satisfies \(Z(t)=Z(t-s)Z(s)\) for \(t\geq s\geq 0\). Clearly, this relation is not true in general.
