Let M be an n-dimensional differentiable manifold, TM its tangent bundle and FM its frame bundle. Morimoto's theory of the prolongations of G- structures on M to \(\tilde G\)-structures on \(TM(\tilde G\subset Gl(2n))\) is well known. The study of the lifts of geometric objects on FM was initiated by \textit{K. P. Mok} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 302, 16-31 (1978; Zbl 0378.53016) and Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 38, 72-88 (1979; Zbl 0395.53017)] and continued by the authors few years later [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 32, 236-271 (1983; Zbl 0524.53020); Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., VI. Ser., B 3, 223-240 (1984; Zbl 0546.53011), and J. Math. Pures Appl., IX. Sér. 65, 81-91 (1986; Zbl 0542.53014)]. The present work develops a theory of prolongations of G-structures on M to \(\tilde G\)-structures on FM, where \(\tilde G\subset Gl(n+n^ 2)\). The authors study the prolongations of some classical G-structures of M, showing the coherence of the different lifts of geometric objects with this general context. The theory is elegant and very natural, permitting a study of the differential geometry of FM, when M is endowed with some additional structure.
