Thin buildings are Coxeter systems. Although Tits allowed for non-thick buildings in his axiomatic set up [\textit{J. Tits}, Buildings of spherical type and finite BN-pairs (1974; Zbl 0295.20047)], the emphasis was on thick buildings. The present paper associates to every non-thick building B a thick building whose Weyl group is a reflection subgroup of the Weyl group of B. Conversely, it is shown how to reconstruct B from the thick building and knowledge of the Weyl group embedding.
