A ring S is called a J-ring if for each \(x\in S\), there is an integer \(n=n(x)>1\) for which \(x^ n=x\). For a ring R, the following conditions are shown to be equivalent: (i) R is a direct sum of a J-ring and a nil- ring; (ii) R is periodic and has a reduced ideal containing all idempotents of R; (iii) R is right \(\pi\)-regular and has a J-ideal containing all idempotents.
