The main result of the paper is as follows: Let A and B be distributive lattices, and let S be a common sublattice of A and B. If there is a lattice L amalgamating A and B over S with the property that every lattice \(L'\) amalgamating A and B over S contains L as a sublattice (i.e. A, B, and S have the Unique Amalgamation Property), then the unique amalgam of A and B over S is distributive.
