The lively article describes Gödel's life and work during his Vienna period. It begins with Gödel's arrival in Vienna in 1924, including his studies (1924-29) and his graduation with his PhD in 1930 followed by his habilitation in 1933, furthermore his relations to the Vienna Circle, and finally describes the increasing difficulties to visit the Institut for Advanced Studies in Princeton. The paper ends with an overall perspective of his Princeton years and his distrust of Vienna. The authors state the facts in view of political events and embed it into cultural relations. The paper itself is worth reading due in part to the extensive illustrations of memorable photographic scenes, but also of interesting academic documents and some photos of personal items (including one letter of Gödel's taylor). The article ends with the addition of a map with points of interest of a Gödel trail. Finally, one can see the authors at the well-known Strudelhofstiege (not: -steige).
