This paper on holomorphic vector bundles and coherent analytic sheaves uses mainly algebraic geometry to prove the following interesting theorem. Theorem~0.1. There is a non-filtrable holomorphic vector bundle \(E\) of rank 2 over the punctured plane \(X=\mathbb{C}^2\setminus\{(0,0)\}\). Here we say that a holomorphic rank 2 vector bundle \(E\to X\) is filtrable if there is an exact sequence \( 0\to L\to E\to M\otimes I_Z\to 0 \) of coherent analytic sheaves over \(X\), where \(L,M\) are holomorphic line bundles over \(X\) and \(I_Z\) is the ideal sheaf of a zero-dimensional analytic subset \(Z\) of \(X\). The proof utilizes well-known theorems about holomorphic extendibility of analytic objects (e.g., holomorphic functions, divisors, sheaves) over \(X\) across the puncture to \(\mathbb{C}^2\), and it brings into play the Hopf surface and many of its interesting properties to bear upon the problem in a surprising and efficient way; it is here dealing with the Hopf surface that a lemma of J.~Winkelmann about power series is used. The paper is very readable, but unfortunately, despite its shortness it has many typos, including one in its printed title.
