If we take in the definition of a merotopy covers of cardinality less than or equal to \(m\), a natural number, then we get the definition of an \(m\)-contiguity. In this paper, which is first in a series, the author discusses the basic properties of such structures. As usual, the author gives many examples and gives a thorough treatment.
