    Let p: \(M\to B\) be a fibration with a typical fibre F, M, B and F being compact and connected. A leaf F of the foliation \({\mathcal F}=\{p^{- 1}(b)\); \(b\in B\}\) is said to be \(C^ r\)-stable iff any foliation \({\mathcal G}\) \(C^ r\)-close to \({\mathcal F}\) has a compact leaf diffeomorphic to F. Theorem 1. If \(H_ 1(F,{\mathbb{R}})={\mathbb{R}}\), then there exists a natural fibration \(p': M'\to B\) with a typical fibre \(S^ 1\) such that the \(C^ 1\)-stability of F is equivalent to the \(C^ 1\)-stability of \(S^ 1.\) Theorem 2. If \(H_ 1(F,{\mathbb{R}})={\mathbb{R}}\) and dim B\(=2n\), then F is \(C^ 1\)-stable iff \(\chi\) (B)\(\neq 0\).
