A group \(G\) is said to be finitely approximable with respect to conjugacy if any two elements conjugate in each finite quotient group of \(G\) are conjugate in \(G\), or equivalently, if each conjugacy class of \(G\) is closed in the profinite topology. Let \(G=G_1*_HG_2\) be the amalgamated free product of two polycyclic groups \(G_1\), \(G_2\) by an abelian normal subgroup \(H\). Main results of this paper state that \(G\) is finitely approximable with respect to conjugacy under any of the conditions: (1) \(H\) has (almost) rank 2; (2) \(G_1=G_2\); (3) \(H\) is central in \(G_1\) or \(G_2\).
