A variable closed set \(C(t)\) (not necessarily convex-valued) in a Hilbert space \(H\) is assumed to move in an absolutely continuous way. The associated sweeping process describes the motion of a point \(x(t)\in C(t)\) that is dragged by \(C(t)\) so that the velocity of \(x(t)\) lies in the minus Clarke normal cone to \(C(t)\) at \(x(t)\), that is, \(x(t)\) is an absolutely continuous solution to the inclusion \[ \dot x(t)\in -N_{C(t)} \bigl(x(t)\bigr),\quad x(0)= x_0\in C(0). \] If \(H\) is finite-dimensional, then such a solution is proven to exist. This generalizes recent results of \textit{H. Benabdellah} [J. Differ. Equations 164, 286--295 (2000; Zbl 0957.34061)] and \textit{G. Colombo} and \textit{V. V. Goncharov} [Set-Valued Anal. 7, 357--374 (1999; Zbl 0957.34060)], where the motion of \(C(t)\) was assumed to be Lipschitz continuous.
