A smooth Fano variety can be reconstructed from its bounded derived category of coherent sheaves, up to isomorphism, as a consequence of \textit{A. Bondal} and \textit{D. Orlov}'s result [Compos. Math. 125, No. 3, 327--344 (2001; Zbl 0994.18007)]. On the other hand, an interesting question, known as categorical Torelli problem, asks whether the same it true by replacing the bounded derived category with subcategories arising as components in semiorthogonal decompositions. For example, the categorical Torelli theorem holds in the case of a cubic threefold \(X\) and its Kuznetsov component \(\mathcal{K}u(X)\) by \textit{M. Bernardara} et al. [Adv. Math. 229, No. 2, 770--803 (2012; Zbl 1242.14012)]. In this paper the authors investigate the categorical version of the infinitesimal Torelli theorem. Recall that an infinitesimal Torelli theorem holds for a smooth projective variety \(X\) if the differential of the period map is injective. Assume that \(X\) has a semiorthogonal decomposition given by an exceptional collection of objects and its right orthogonal complement \(\mathcal{K}u(X)\). The infinitesimal categorical Torelli theorem holds if the map \(\eta \colon H^1(X, T_X) \to HH^2(\mathcal{K}u(X))\) is injective, where \(HH^2(\mathcal{K}u(X))\) denotes the second Hochschild cohomology of \(\mathcal{K}u(X)\). First the authors prove in Theorem 1.1 that for \(X\) as above the differential of the period map factors through \(\eta\). In particular, the infinitesimal Torelli theorem implies the infinitesimal categorical Torelli theorem. Then in Theorem 1.4 they show that the infinitesimal categorical Torelli theorem holds for prime Fano threefolds of index \(2\), degree \(1 \leq d \leq 4\), of index \(1\), genus \(g=2, 4, 5, 7\) and not hyperelliptic of index \(1\), genus \(4\). Finally, they prove in Theorem 1.7 an infinitesimal categorical version of Debarre-Iliev-Manivel's conjecture for ordinary Gushel-Mukai threefolds.
