Let \(x(\varphi): [-r,\infty) \to\mathbb{R}^n\) be the solution to the linear delay differential equation \(x'(t)=\int^0_{-r} d_\theta [\eta(t, \theta)]x (t+\theta)\), \(t>0\), with initial condition \(x(\varphi)(t) =\varphi (t)\), \(t\in[-r,0]\). Under certain restrictions on \(\eta\), an explicit expression is given (in terms of the solution to the adjoint equation) for \(l(\varphi)= \lim_{t\to \infty} X^{-1}(t) x(\varphi(t))\), where \(X\) is the fundamental matrix solution to the equation. Thus, a previous result of \textit{R. D. Driver} [ibid. 21, 148-166 (1976; Zbl 0319.34067)] is refined. Asymptotically constant solutions are also considered for linear equations admitting constant solutions (with \(\eta(t,-r)=0\) for all \(t)\).
