Motivated by Loomis' theory of dimension lattices, the authors introduce a \textit{hull mapping} to be a mapping \(\eta\) from an effect algebra to its center such that (1) \(\eta 0=0\), (2) \(e\leq\eta e\), (3) \(\eta(e\land\eta f)=\eta e\land\eta f\). Special types of elements w.r.t. a hull mapping are studied. Particular attention is paid to centrally orthocomplete effect algebras, where every family of elements that is dominated by an orthogonal family of central elements has a supremum. Centrally orthocomplete effect algebras admit central covers and decompositions, which continues the work of [\textit{D. J. Foulis} and \textit{S. Pulmannová}, ``Type-decomposition of an effect algebra'', Found. Phys. 40, No. 9/10, 1543--1565 (2010; Zbl 1221.81024)].
