The author examines a type of the Pell equation of the form \[ dx^2 - d^*y^2=\pm t\quad\text{for}\;t\in \{1,2,4\} \tag{1} \] where \(dd^*\) is not a square. After presenting three sections on standard continued fraction theory, he presents solutions to (1) under conditions involving ambiguous ideals. Next he presents a sequence of results on period length and structure some of which he admits are closely related to work of this reviewer. In the last section on applications, he considers relations of solutions to Jacobi symbols.
