The Speiser class consists of all entire functions which have only finitely many critical and asymptotic values. It plays an important role in iteration theory. The main result of this paper says that there exists no transcendental entire function in the Speiser class for which the multipliers of all repelling periodic points are real. In the proof the author constructs an invariant line field on the Julia set. In part the proof uses methods of Eremenko and van Strien who characterized the rational functions for which the multipliers of all periodic points are real.
